Police Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, is satisfied with the progress made by the contractors that are building the N$20 million police station on the outskirts of Swakopmund's DRC informal settlement.
The police station is sponsored by Rossing Uranium.
The police station brings much relief to the community of DRC and Swakopmund, where criminal activities have become a grave concern in Swakopmund, especially in the DRC area.
The new police station is expected to significantly improve the police's ability to respond to emergencies and prevent crime in the DRC area and Maturura.
Previously, residents relied on the Mondesa police station, which is located approximately 10 kilometers away.
"You can see right away here is the building of the police station. I am very happy to see the progress because the regional commander has been updating me, and I can recall very well when I was here on the second of July 2024. For the groundbreaking, there was nothing really, but if you see today the progress that people are making, I think the company here should be commended for the work they are doing, and as I was talking to the contractor, the promises that he made are that at least at the end of January and the beginning of February they should be able to hand over the building to the beneficiaries."
The new facility will include a charge office, holding cells, ablution facilities, and office space.
