Mboweni, South Africa's first black Reserve Bank Governor post-1994, passed away on Saturday after a brief illness.
President Mbumba praised Mboweni as a symbol of African excellence and a distinguished policymaker in finance and economics. He acknowledged Mboweni's significant contributions to South Africa's economic growth during his time as a Cabinet Minister, central banker, and in the private sector.
Mbumba also highlighted Mboweni's early activism as an ANC member fighting against apartheid, stating that he led an exemplary life, not only for South Africa but for the entire region.
