Learners at Lusese Combined School in Zambezi commemorated the Day of the Namibian Child with a call by learners to address challenges they face.
The day of the Namibian child is an important occasion that reminds parents and guardians of their commitment to the future of a Namibian child as well as raises awareness about the challenges facing children.
A learner at Lusese Combined School, Sarah Makanduko, said some quarters of society, even schools, fall short of respecting the rights of children.
"These being rights of education where, as in, we do not have a proper computer lab and a library facility to support our learning needs. In terms of health as learners, we have a hostel facility with a dining hall but no tables and chairs. Due to this, we are forced to eat outside where it is not very conducive. For the past three years', water has been the biggest challenge both at school and hostel. Due to this, sometimes our ablution facilities are locked as there is no water, which is a very big hazard. water is needed."
Ngoma Circuit Inspector Namasiku Limbo said government efforts to ensure that every child goes to school are evident.
"This is evidence that our government has provided that every Namibian child comes to school without paying school fees by providing the universal primary fund or universal secondary fund as well as the effective initiating step to ensure that they provide tertiary fund as well as science equipment material fund that all the schools there are not disadvantaged in receiving the equal proportion with all schools in Namibia."
