Access to potable water remains a challenge for many in rural areas.

A case in point is the residents of Sesheke in Zambezi's Kongola Constituency, who still walk distances to fetch water.

Some communities do not have water because of broken boreholes, while others did not have boreholes in the first place. 

The residents of Sesheke have been without water for the past two years and fetch water at the clinic two kilometres away. 

Sesheke is not the only area that is affected, as residents of the Kongola constituency suffer the same fate.

The villagers used to get water from one of the boreholes, but they were stopped because the water was not fit for human consumption. 

Some of the residents go home without water because of long queues and squabbles at the water point.

Sesheke's headman, Charles Kangumu, explained that they took the matter to the councillor of the Kongola Constituency, who told them that the matter was still being discussed.

Kongola Councillor Bernett Busihu could not give details on the matter, saying he was unwell.
