The Khorixas District Hospital is in a state of disrepair, facing significant challenges due to inadequate health resources.
These issues were brought to light during a recent visit by Japan's Ambassador to Namibia, Hisao Nishimaki, and UNICEF Country Representative, Dr. Samuel Ocran.
Despite its capacity of 121 beds, the hospital struggles with a shortage of proper beds and mattresses for patients and lacks sufficient delivery beds with adequate sheets. Additional challenges include unreliable water supply, damaged flooring, and the absence of resuscitation tables for newborns.
Furthermore, ambulances are either non-functional or unavailable.
The hospital, which urgently requires renovations to restrooms, more staff, basic medical equipment, and emergency services, has seen increased pressure on its staff.
Both Dr. Ocran and Ambassador Nishimaki expressed concern over the distressing conditions, describing the situation as uncomfortable for patients.
They have committed to bringing these issues to the attention of the Ministry of Health and Social Services and offering support where possible.
