The 2024 Gus Koller Offshore Angling Competition concluded recently along Namibia's coast, highlighting an intense showdown between Namibian and South African anglers.

This event has a history of fostering competitive angling spirits between Namibia and South Africa, showcasing the skills and techniques of anglers from both sides.

The coastal waters of Namibia, known for their rich marine biodiversity, offer an ideal setting for this international angling event.

This tournament typically emphasises both individual and team performances, with a focus on landing larger catches and demonstrating expertise in offshore angling.

The three-day competition was held at various locations, from north of Henties Bay to areas between Swakopmund and Henties Bay, with 84 anglers from both countries competing.

Namibia secured victory in just one of the six categories, the Namibian President A category, while South Africa claimed wins in the remaining five categories.

Over 8,100 kg of both edible and inedible fish were caught during the competition and released back into the ocean after being weighed and measured.

Anglers from both countries praised the well-organised competition, noting that it was not only a contest but also an opportunity for forming friendships.

Tournament director Danie du Toit stated that, despite challenging seas on days one and two, the quality of angling was of a high standard throughout the competition.

Namibia is set to host the 2025 edition of the competition once again, continuing its tradition of providing a vibrant and challenging environment for anglers from both Namibia and South Africa.
