The division in NUDO deepens as a faction under Barry Rukoro called for a media conference this morning to announce NUDO's technical-political collaboration with Swanu of Namibia.
Rukoro's media briefing was at the same time as party Secretary General Joseph Kaundenge was at the Elections House for the nomination of political parties and presidential candidates for the November elections.
Rukoro addressed the party's recent internal challenges, pointing to actions taken by the leadership that, according to him, violated the party's constitutional framework.
Rukoro blasted the party's executive's actions, saying they were attributed to the breakdown of trust and internal division, adding that the legitimacy of the previous leadership had been compromised, undermining the democratic foundation upon which NUDO was built.
Rukoro said he, together with his team, held consultations with legal experts and confirmed that his faction would challenge the party's top brass in court.
"So, we are also joining the Electoral Commission of Namibia in our Court challenge to prevent them from accepting or endorsing the illegitimate parliamentary views of parliamentary leaders. This is an essential step to safeguard the democratic representation of NUDO in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Whatever they expect to bring, we don't care too much."
He announced that the party's executive term ended in March of this year and that any decision taken by them would not stand the test of legality, including the convening of an electoral college and the submission of a parliamentary list to the electoral commission.
In the meantime, at the ECN, NUDO nominations for the National Assembly were accepted.
The former NFA secretary-general also said that his NUDO is now strategically aligned with the Swanu of Namibia.
This alignment, he continued, is part of a broader tactical-political approach aimed at strengthening NUDO.
Over the past few days, Rukoro said that the party engaged in extensive consultations on the way forward.
"Following extensive consultations with traditional leaders, as well as branch and constituency leaderships nationwide, we are proud to announce that we have received solid, and I repeat, solid and unanimous support to enter into a strategic partnership with Swanu. This partnership, officially announced today, represents a key step forward in our efforts to ensure neutral parliamentary representation."
nbc News contacted the president of the party, Dr. Utjiua Muinjangue, asking her about the collaboration between her party and Swanu.
Muinjangue said she has no knowledge of such a collaboration and said the party's leadership was at the ECN to submit its parliamentary list ahead of the November elections.
