The Landless People's Movement (LPM) is demanding urgent answers from the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) after what it describes as abrupt cancellation of a bidding process for a tender to print ballot papers for the upcoming November Presidential and National Assembly Elections.

The ECN scrapped the bid on 7 October 2024—just 48 hours before the deadline.

The ECN, on Thursday, announced that after an undisclosed “comprehensive evaluation process,” Johannesburg-based Ren-Form CC had emerged as the “most responsive bidder.”

This revelation has sparked outrage, with LPM accusing the ECN of operating behind a veil of secrecy. LPM, through its lawyers, DR Weder Kauta & Hoveka Incorporated, is now calling on the ECN to "come clean," further "demanding clear reasons for the sudden and unexpected bid cancellation and a full explanation of how Ren-Form CC was selected despite the bid being withdrawn."

LPM has given the ECN seven days to explain themselves.
