The increasing number of learners at the Usiel Ndjavera Primary School in the Otjinene constituency is putting pressure on service delivery, with over 1,000 learners enrolled this academic year.
School Principal Herold Tjiueza pointed out that the limited number of classrooms and hostel accommodations are some of the key issues that need urgent attention.
Tjiueza stated that while the school celebrates its 50th anniversary, there is a need to mobilise funds to buy a minibus for the school.
"The school has to undertake trips so that learners can be exposed and experience, but every now and there we have to rent cars, which is very expensive, but once you have your own, you just fuel and move and then go see what learners must go and see. I think the community is listening to what I'm saying regarding the bus. You hear it from Mr. Upendura. We have already started with programmes to solicit funds for that purpose. Let's put hands together for that purpose."
Omaheke Education Director, Constance Wantenaar, reaffirmed the government's commitments to education, and two classrooms will be constructed next year to address the shortage.
"I can confidently announce that we are going to give you two more classrooms. This is not something to discuss. You can see that there was an invite in the media for bidders to construct classrooms, and the closing date is the 25th of November 2024."
