Zimbabwe's Embassy in Namibia has donated new needlecraft equipment to the Ngaukujame Community Project run by women at Omaheke's Ovinjuru Village.

Ambassador Melody Chaurura says empowering rural women is one of the fundamental aspects of community development.

"You will continue to see me here because I want to ensure that this is not a once-off  but is just the beginning of a relationship that is bigger and better if you ask what I wish for as an ambassador. I want to see a happy and prosperous Namibia and a happy and prosperous Zimbabwe. How do we do that? It will be through the empowerment of our people; they are empowered, and we are sure that progress between the two nations is possible."

Ngaukujame Project Manager, Julitha Kangootui, said the equipment will transform the lives of local women and improve their living standards.

Kangootui added that the project will also work closely with young people to capacitate them.

"The aim for us is to eradicate laziness and poverty. By this, we mean that if we have the efficiency that we need, we can do different projects, and we will sell this, and this will benefit the community in return."

Omaheke's Governor, Pijoo Nganate, expressed satisfaction with the commitment shown by the residents of Ovinjuru.

"Im very impressed with the innovation done by the women here while other people. Thank you very much. Congratulations."

Ovinjuru has also set up a community garden on preprimary school grounds.
