Omaheke residents propose changes to Delimitation and Demarcation Commission

Residents of the Omaheke Region who attended the Delimitation and Demarcation Commission consultations have suggested several boundaries to the commission.

The commission is in the Omaheke Region to assess the boundaries of the region and its constituencies. 

The Chairperson of the Commission, Acting Judge Petrus Unengu, explained that the consultations were critical to assisting the Commission in formulating recommendations that might shape regional development.

nbc's Komeheke remembered

Leaders, family, and friends of the late Sagarias Komeheke have described him as a friend to all, someone who was passionate about and always dedicated towards his work, and a top-class informer.

Komeheke, who was a nbc freelancer working at Omurari Radio in Gobabis, died on April 25th, aged 52.

Speaker after speaker said Komeheke placed the Omaheke Region on the map through his hard work and unwavering commitment.

NASRIA donates agricultural equipment to Omaheke Governor's office

The National Special Risks Insurance Association (NASRIA) has donated agricultural equipment to the Office of the Omaheke Governor to assist in the establishment of a greenhouse at Farm Nuwehoop.

The project, which is to produce food for children, has secured land from the Gobabis local authority as well as a vehicle, and NASRIA's sponsorship is the final piece required to set up the greenhouse project.

Omaheke Governor Pijoo Nganate is optimistic that the project will greatly assist vulnerable children and their families.

Malnutrition cases increasing daily in Omaheke Region

Malnutrition cases continue to be reported almost on a daily basis in the Omaheke Region.

Since the beginning of December 2023, the region has recorded 78 new malnutrition cases.

Alcohol abuse and negligence of children by parents are some of the key contributing factors.

This was revealed by the Regional Governor, Pijoo Nganate, in Gobabis. 

Gobabis Vocational Training Centre receives solar PV plant

The German government has installed a solar PV plant at the Gobabis Vocational Training Centre to sustain the centre's electricity supply as part of the social-economic progression.

The solar plant project cost N$4.1 million.

The Director of Technical Vocational Education and Training in the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation, and Technology, Muvatere Siririka, urged the centre to take care of the facility.

Healthcare provision a challenge in Omaheke Region

Shortages of hospital beds, ambulances, poor staff accommodation, especially at Otjinene, and delays in procurement are some of the factors affecting the provision of healthcare service delivery in the Omaheke Region.

This was revealed by Omaheke Regional Governor Pijoo Nganate during a visit by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Gender Equality, Social Development, and Family Affairs at Gobabis.

Governor Nganate stressed that health is one of the sectors that needs urgent attention, especially the provision of ambulances in rural areas.

Much still needs to be done to capacitate young people - NYC

The Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Council says there is still much work to be done to capacitate young people and coordinate programmes and activities among various institutions, especially at the grassroot level.

Sharonice Busch made this call during an engagement with Omaheke regional leaders at Gobabis.

Busch stated that despite unemployment and other social and economic challenges, young people should take the lead in initiating projects with the assistance of the regional youth forum leaders.
