President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, who also serves as Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation, has issued a call for peace and integrity in the electoral process of Botswana, which will head to the polls tomorrow to elect the country’s leadership.

The election will determine the leadership of Botswana's 13th Parliament and local councils.

The SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), deployed to Botswana from 14 October to 6 November, will oversee the election to ensure adherence to the 2021 revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.

President Hassan emphasised the significance of peaceful participation, encouraging all eligible voters to exercise their constitutional rights responsibly. She urged all political actors and supporters to maintain a calm, respectful atmosphere during and after the voting process.
