The Minister for Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, officially inaugurated the newly built Malengalenga Primary Healthcare Centre and the newly renovated Linyanti Clinic in Zambezi Region on Thursday.
The two facilities are expected to address issues of people walking over 10 kilometres to the nearest clinic for medical attention while also at the risk of running into wildlife.
Dr. Shangula said the facilities are a demonstration of the ministry and government's determination to ensure health care is available for all Namibians and will prioritise the provision of preventative healthcare services to the residents and visitors alike.
The minister implored the community and staff members alike to take care of the facility for future generations to benefit.
"This facility represents a significant investment in health, and in the future of this country, it is imperative that the clinic managers and the staff diligently care for this clinic and ensure that all the medical equipment and installation are maintained to the highest standard. By doing so, we safeguard the clinic's integrity to provide quality healthcare for generations to come."
The area's indunas for both Malengalenga and Linyanti thanked the ministry for answering their call of bringing a healthcare facility within their reach, adding that it will address many healthcare and safety challenges for community members.
The Linyanti health centre was constructed at a cost of over N$17 million, while Malengalenga was built at just over N$14 million and will be equipped with modern medical equipment, skilled healthcare professionals, a delivery room, a kitchen, and a waiting area, among others.
