Tsandi Village Council in the Omusati Region is holding its first-ever Agricultural Expo in a bid to bridge the gap between cutting-edge technology and traditional wisdom in agriculture.
The expo provides a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing, innovation, and collaboration among all stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
The expo, which started on 30 October and ends on the 2nd of November, serves as a platform where farmers come together, share best farming practices, discuss challenges they encounter, and showcase their produce.
At the event, Tsandi Constituency councillor Junias Amunkete highlighted some of the challenges faced by farmers in his constituency.
"Our people, young and old, are ready to do agricultural activities like crop farming and animal farming, but water is a challenge to the activities. We have the Etaka-Uuvudhiya canal. A long time ago, we submitted documents requesting this canal to be rehabilitated with cement like the other one from Calueque to Oshakati and encouraging our community to take part fully in agricultural activities."
The Deputy Executive Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, Dr. Elijah Ngurare, also addressed the farmers.
"Well, I also went to see this morning that the water is flowing; we wanted it to go all the way to Uuvudhiya to Lake Oponono. That is just urgent now; we just want to do it for now, but the long-term is we are going to put concrete in this canal here. We have received the cost, and we are going to have it done because there are other works that are taking place at Calueque. The pump station that was there, one was broken. We are now in the process of repairing that, which means that the capacity is going to become more. If we pump that water in the current state, it will flood all over here, so what must now happen is the canal must be well repaired so you are able to get this water through."
