The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) built 516 houses in the 2023/2024 financial year, facilitating homeownership for middle- to low-income earners.

The demand for affordable housing remains high, with many families still relying on rentals or living in informal settlements lacking basic services.

Mutonga Matali, NHE’s Corporate Communications Manager, stated that NHE has reactivated its Excess Loan Initiative, providing loans from N$50,000 for renovations to up to N$1 million for home construction, depending on affordability.

“Flat roofs are cheaper than pitched ones. Choosing this design has significantly cut construction costs, making homeownership more accessible. Our goal is to create affordable solutions, so our prices are lower than typical market rates,” Matali noted.

Matali also announced that 33 of 64 homes in Ondangwa and 80 in Omuthiya have been completed. The informal settlement upgrade program, piloted in Omuthiya, aims to set a standard for improving living conditions nationwide
