NDP concludes northern regions' campaign

The National Democratic Party (NDP) has promised to create job opportunities for young people if elected to power in the November national elections. 

Its president, Martin Lukato, addressed a media briefing at Ondangwa.

Lukato has concluded his house-to-house campaign, carried out in the northern regions.

He hailed the effort as a success, noting its aim of getting voters to consider the better future offered by the NDP.

Families in urban centres need food aid - Irimari

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari says the persistent drought has a significant negative impact on families in urban centres within his region and that they too deserve to get food aid to help them get through the drought.

Against this background, the Oshana Regional Council found it fit to hand over food parcels valued at N$135,000 to three of its local authorities.

The towns of Ongwediva, Ondangwa, and Oshakati received 737 tinned fish as well as 184 bottles of cooking oil and 10 kg bags of maize meal to assist the families in these towns in getting a meal on their tables.

Over 200 Ondangwa residents receive plots

Over 200 residents of Ondangwa have received plots to build their homes at Omashaka Proper Informal Settlement.

Out of the 231 plots, 37 were awarded through the Shack Dwellers Federation (SDF).

The plots have been serviced with water reticulation and electricity to the tune of N$4.3 million.

An additional N$1.1 million has been used to compensate nine households that paved the way for development.

Ondangwa Chief Executive Officer Ismael Namgongo wants to see an equal distribution of land among the residents.

NamPol commends government for addressing lack of manpower

NamPol Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, has commended the government for addressing a lack of manpower in the police force.

He remarked this when he officially opened the police basic training course at the Ruben Danger Ashipala Police Training Centre in Ondangwa.

The police's basic training is being attended by 841 cadet constables. Of these, 572 are male and 279 are female.

They were recruited from all 14 of the country's regions.
