A motor vehicle accident claimed the lives of the driver and four passengers in the early hours of this morning on the B1 road between Tsumeb and Oshivelo. 

According to the police's national spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the driver lost control of the white Nissan bakkie about 40 kilometres to Oshivelo, resulting in it leaving the road and overturning.

The car, which had eight occupants, was travelling from Walvisbay to Ondangwa. 

Four victims died on the spot, one at the hospital, and the other three were taken to Tsumeb State Hospital for medical attention. 

The deceased whose next of kin are already informed are: 58-year-old Magdalena Ruanda, who was the driver; 47-year-old Martha Samuel; 18-year-old Reinhold Rannei Megameno Ankambo; 12-year-old Bravo Simson; and youngest of the group, Elizabeth Ruanda, a five-year-old girl.
