Albertina Haimbala to represent Namibia at Miss Earth 2024

The first runner-up of Miss Namibia 2023, Albertina Haimbala, will represent the country at the Miss Earth 2024 International Beauty Pageant instead of at the Miss World Beauty Festival. 

Normally, the first runner-up would attend the Miss World festival instead of Miss Namibia, however, the organisers of the event have decided otherwise.

The Miss Earth 2024 International Beauty Pageant will be held in Vietnam later this year.

This was announced by Miss Namibia Organisation's Chief Executive Officer, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, today. 

Family members of Fishrot accused hold silent protest

Family members of the detained fishrot suspects held a silent protest this morning in front of the Windhoek Correctional Facility.
 
The group gathered there, hoping to catch the attention of Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) officials and amplify their request. 

The group of nearly twenty, comprising various family members of the detained fishrot suspects, braved the chilly morning weather on Monday to express their concerns related to the ongoing safety of the suspects.

Government urges UN help for Middle East peace

The government is urging the international community, particularly the United Nations, to help find an impartial diplomatic solution that would lead to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. 

The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Dr. Peya Mushelenga, made an appeal in a statement. 

Dr. Mushelenga said Namibia is concerned over tensions in the Middle East. His concerns came following explosions in Iran that were attributed to Israel.

National Assembly yet to receive Muharukua's resignation letter

The National Assembly is yet to receive a formal resignation letter from the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) about MP Vipuakuje Muharukua, almost a week after he announced he was quitting.

On Tuesday last week, Muharukua tendered his resignation to his party, PDM, saying he was unable to continue promoting the party's virtues and values.

Senior spokesperson at Parliament Sakeus Kadhikwa told nbc News that the National Assembly is only in possession of a forwarded letter from PDM's parliament desk to the Secretary to the National Assembly.

Public urged to help nab Etosha poachers

The Ministry of Environment is hot on the heels of four suspected rhino poachers from Etosha National Park who poached two rhinos.

After poaching the male and female rhinos, the poachers' movements were spotted by the anti-poaching members. 

Bulletin Editor Lahia Hatutale engaged Retired Commissioner Ndahangwapo Kashihakumwa, Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism's Head of Wildlife Protection Services, on this poaching matter.

No official resignation letter from Muharukua - National Assembly

The National Assembly has not received a written resignation letter from the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) member of parliament, Vipuakuje Muharukua.

This is contrary to reports that Muharukua has resigned from the party and the National Assembly.

Senior Public Relations Officer at Parliament, Sakeus Kadhikwa, told nbc News that they have not received any official resignation letter from Muharukua.

He, however, confirmed that Muharukua was absent from the session today, which does not mean a resignation.

Angola's ruling party and a sister liberation movement, the MPLA, has added their voice of sympathy to its Namibian counterpart, the Swapo Party, following the untimely death of Namibian Leader Dr. Hage Geingob.

The MPLA, in a statement, says it is saddened by the death of Geingob.

It says the late President Geingob was an icon of the liberation struggle and a national symbol who dedicated himself with total availability and a spirit of sacrifice, especially in defence of the ideals that guided the long process of the struggle to achieve Namibia's independence.

SADC Region counterparts pay tribute to late President Geingob

Tributes have also been streaming in from the late President Hage Geingob's counterparts in the SADC Region.

One of the first tributes was from Zambia's President Hakainde Hichilema.

He said Zambia and SADC have lost a true friend, a liberation icon, a distinguished diplomat, a senior African statesman, and an elder brother.

He added that Zambia's thoughts and prayers are with the widow, Monica Geingos, and her family, the Namibian people, and the entire African continent.

Dr. Kaire Mbuende applauds South Africa on recalling diplomats from Israel

International relations expert Dr. Kaire Mbuende has applauded South Africa's decision to recall its diplomats from Israel amid the ongoing bombardment by Israel on the Gaza Strip.

South Africa described Israel's act on the Gaza Strip as a "genocide".

Speaking on Good Morning Namibia, the former ambassador justified South Africa's actions, stressing they were the right move.

Dr. Mbuende touched on the likely dire economic consequences for South Africa and other countries that have enacted this stance.
