Hundreds of Nigerians returned to Lagos from South Africa on Tuesday on a government-backed evacuation flight, as anti-immigration protests demanding that foreign workers leave continue in parts of the country.
Footage shows an Air Peace aircraft landing at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, where immigration officials received the returnees as they stepped off the plane in heavy rain. They were later taken for immigration processing.
According to local media, Tuesday's Air Peace charter flight brought back 271 Nigerians. Two earlier evacuation flights had returned a further 328 people, while the Nigerian Union in South Africa says more than 1,000 citizens remain stranded.
Many of those arriving back in Nigeria spoke of fear, loss and the uncertainty of starting again.
