A four-year-old boy, Joseph Ndumetu, died after a Cape cobra bit him on his left ear while sleeping at his parents' house at Otumwe, in the Uis area, yesterday.
According to Ndumetu's father, he heard a scream while the family was sleeping, and when he went to investigate, he saw a snake leaving the children's blanket.
He then killed it before proceeding to look for assistance to take the child to the clinic in Uis. Ndumetu died on his way to the clinic.
It was suspected that the child was bitten on the left ear, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police investigations continue.
