The Regional Electoral Officer for the Kunene Region says the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) in the region is ready for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections, despite challenges in reaching some remote areas.
At the time of the nbc News team's visit, the ECN officials were preparing and verifying both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials for delivery across the region's constituencies at the Opuwo Police Headquarters.
Mike Nganjone says two helicopters from the Namibian Defence Force will assist in accessing hard-to-reach areas, particularly in mountainous regions, where vehicles can't reach due to poor road conditions.
Nganjone explains most communities in the remote areas live a migratory lifestyle due to grazing for their livestock, especially in areas such as Opuwo Rural, Sesfontein, and Epupa, and these helicopters will help ensure that these voters can participate in elections.
Kunene has over 50,000 eligible voters, with 515 fixed and mobile polling stations.
