The Tsumkwe community celebrated Human Rights Day as organised by the //Ana-Djeh Trust.
The founder of the trust, Kielenie Fernando, explained that the intention of hosting the day was to make the community members aware of their rights.
"Human rights events have always been part of //Ana-Djeh's programs. This is not the first time that we are having Human Rights Day celebrations, so what always inspires me is that I want to make sure that my people should be aware of their rights and that they have to understand that they should stand up for themselves as people and that they have rights as well."
She, despite financial constraints, the organisation strives to host these kinds of events.
"When it comes to San communities, all the human rights are exportation, so we did not specifically aim for one human rights element; we actually make it wide out."
Pieter Otto, a youth from the community, spoke about the importance of young people in his community knowing their rights.
"It is important for me because I want to know about my rights, and it is really important because the coming generation won't know their rights."
He further noted that he sees progress in the San people in his community in knowing their rights.
