The City of Windhoek is warning residents to be cautious of scammers posing as municipal officials and asking for money from them.

The individuals contact residents, claiming they must immediately pay if they do not want their municipal services disconnected.

The city explained that it had not authorised anyone to solicit payments through e-wallets, EFTs, or online transfers.

"The City of Windhoek has not authorised anyone to call residents requesting payments via e-wallet or any wallet, EFT, or online payment," said spokesperson Lydia Amutenya, adding that the city also makes provisions for paying in cash.

In addition, the City has the following options for payment: debit orders, direct deposits at any commercial bank, electronic or online banking to the City of Windhoek account, and ATM payments for FNB clients only.

The City of Windhoek's contact details are available on its website.
