Namibia's consistent calls for peace, the adoption of the historic Pact of the Future, and commitment to multilateralism strongly characterised its diplomatic engagements in 2024.

In the SADC Region, Namibia is known for its stable political and economic environment.

President Mbumba attributes this to the country's work with the SADC regional bloc to strengthen peace and security and to promote development in Africa.

"It is our hope that Mozambique will return to normalcy from the post-electoral violence since the elections of the 9th of October 2024. It is also our hope that peace will prevail in Sudan, the Sahel, and the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo."

Namibia co-chaired the UN Summit of the Future alongside Germany, which culminated in the adoption of the Pact of the Future by consensus at the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Pact of the Future and its annexes, the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations, pave the way for concrete steps to respond to emerging challenges and opportunities through action-orientated outcomes.

"Through our work as Co-Chair of the Summit of the Future, we have once again demonstrated Namibia's commitment to multilateralism and left an indelible footprint in the history of the United Nations. We have also made tangible contributions by redoubling global efforts in the fight against climate change and inequality, aiming for a fairer humanity."

Looking ahead, Namibia would continue to advocate for peaceful solutions to conflicts, with President Mbumba emphasising that this is so in a world that is becoming increasingly conflictual, fractured, and uncertain.

"Therefore, consistent with our commitment to diplomatic solutions to conflicts, I call for peace in the Middle East; I call for an end to the violence and violation of international humanitarian law in Sudan and Gaza; and I call for a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict."

President Mbumba underscored Namibia's impact in diplomacy in his New Year's message.
