President Nangolo Mbumba has reaffirmed the enduring bond between Namibia and Cuba, praising the Cuban people for their historic revolutionary march against the U.S. economic, commercial, and financial blockade.
Reflecting on the shared history, President Mbumba highlighted the decisive role of Cuban internationalists under Fidel Castro in supporting Namibia's struggle for independence, which cemented a friendship built on sacrifice and solidarity.
The people of Cuba recently held a massive demonstration, where they responded fervently to the call of President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, just a week earlier urging Cubans to unite and march for their country against the ongoing hardships inflicted by the blockade and the designation on the terrorism list.
Iconic leaders, including Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and Commander José Ramón Machado Ventura, joined Party, State, and youth organisation representatives, as well as members of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and Ministry of the Interior, in leading the demonstration.
In a statement, the Namibia-Cuba Friendship Association emphasised the immense suffering endured by the Cuban people under the "criminal economic blockade," which continues to stifle the country's economy and infringe upon its sovereignty.
The association joined the global call for peace-loving nations to demand the immediate lifting of the blockade and Cuba's removal from the terrorism sponsors list.
Namibia remains steadfast in its support for Cuba, with the association emphasising the need for peace-loving nations to unite in advocating for justice and an end to the decades-long sanctions.
