The community leader of the Mix Settlement, Lucia Bashir, is pleading with the government, institutions, and the City of Windhoek to build recreational facilities at the settlement to reduce criminal activities among young people.

Leaders claim that a lack of recreational facilities contributes to young people's involvement in alcohol and drug abuse, leading to an increase in crimes such as housebreaking and fighting.

There is also no clinic in the area; however, Bashir is grateful that ambulance services are always available and quite responsive when called.

Water in some areas, such as Efolulu and the new Mix settlement, is another problem, but the City of Windhoek is busy developing it.

Bashir says even though some township layouts are not officially demarcated for residential purposes, she urged the City of Windhoek to speed up the process and set up temporary solutions such as water tanks.
