The police in the Omaheke Region have recorded ten cases of drinking and driving, four road accidents with one fatality, and a decrease in serious crimes such as armed robberies, housebreakings, assaults, and theft from motor vehicles since the start of the festive season operation.
The Regional Commander, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze, says the force has implemented strict safety measures throughout the festive season to maintain law and order, especially at their key roadblocks.
Commissioner Tjiveze added that special operations and arrests are being carried out to address rising concerns about theft and alcohol-related incidents.
They also effected arrests of five stock theft suspects in the Omitara area.
"The police force in the Omaheke Region remains committed to improving safety for all residents in the region. We recognise the need for continued vigilance, and several areas will be prioritised in the coming months. We shall continue to monitor traffic laws, focusing on areas with high accident rates; enhanced road safety campaigns will also be carried out to educate road users on the importance of driving responsibly."
The regional commander maintained that the force will continue to work closely with all stakeholders to address both crimes and road issues while increasing public participation in ensuring a safer environment.
