The murder case of Keetmanshoop resident Elleste Plaatjies, who died following an alleged brutal attack by Namibian police officers, may soon return to the court roll.
NamPol's crime investigation coordinator in the ||Kharas Region, Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, confirmed to nbc News that police investigations have been finalized. The case was provisionally struck from the court roll last year due to procedural issues.
The investigation faced setbacks after police failed to conduct an identification parade, leading the presiding magistrate to withdraw the case provisionally.
Mbango stated that an identification parade has since been completed, and the docket will be submitted to the Prosecutor General this Friday.
Two police officers, Bernard Mulisa and Wilbard Neshuku, both members of the Police Special Reserve Force, were charged with murder and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Allegations that the officers allegedly assaulted Plaatjies after a stop-and-search operation revealed he was in possession of a small quantity of skunk cannabis. Plaatjies succumbed to his injuries a week after the assault.
Mulisa and Wilbard are out on bail.
