The Oshana Regional Youth Forum has condemned what it described as “hooliganism” by individuals who stormed the National Youth Council (NYC) head offices in Windhoek on Friday. The incident came amidst rising tensions over governance issues within the council.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the forum attributed the unrest to misinformation and confusion surrounding the appointment of an Interim Board by the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service.
The board was introduced to address governance and compliance challenges linked to the previous NYC leadership, whose term expired in December 2024.
Absalom Itamalo, Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Youth Forum, emphasised the importance of calm, urging youth in the region to remain patient as the Interim Board works to resolve the issues. He noted that governance and compliance matters are now under the administration of the interim board and assured that the appointed board is equipped to handle the situation effectively.
The forum called on youth, particularly in the Oshana Region, to engage in constructive dialogue and avoid being influenced by divisive narratives allegedly driven by individuals associated with the previous NYC leadership.
