Prominent lawyer Dirk Conradie is among those subpoenaed to testify in Dr. Job Amupanda’s legal battle to remove the northern Red Line.
Conradie, who served as a consultant for the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry during a 2014 study on the Red Line’s implications, will take the stand. That study recommended the red line’s removal, citing economic benefits.
The government has since announced that a new study will be conducted.
Also expected to testify are the ministry’s Executive Director, Ndiyakupi Nghituwamata, and former Permanent Secretary, Joseph Iita.
President-elect Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has also been called as a witness, along with former Law Reform Commission Chairperson and Justice Minister Sacky Shanghala, who is currently imprisoned.
Dr. Amupanda is asking the court to declare the Red Line unconstitutional and to stop authorities from confiscating meat products transported from northern Namibia.
The case will be heard from January 20 to 31.
