Dr. Job Amupanda has lodged a formal complaint with the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) against High Court Judge Shafimana Ueitele, alleging misconduct in his handling of the Red Line trial.

The complainant accuses Judge Ueitele of making inappropriate remarks during the trial, including references to the private lives of those involved, suggesting that politicians should not be treated equally, and even ordering the exhumation of a deceased person.

The allegations further include claims that the judge issued threats during proceedings.

This development follows previous concerns raised by activist and academic Dr. Job Amupanda, who recently accused the judiciary of bias in handling cases linked to historical land injustices.

Amupanda has argued that the courts have not treated claims related to the Red Line dispute fairly and have instead favoured economic interests.

On Wednesday, Dr. Amupanda raised concerns over potential conflict of interest involving Judge Ueitele, who is presiding in the veterinary cordon fence case.

According to information revealed by Amupanda, Minister Carl Schlettwein, who is a defendant in the case, as the line minister, granted Judge Ueitele an exemption from paying land tax on two farms just before the trial began.

He further alleged that Judge Ueitele may have ties to the Meat Board of Namibia, the fifth defendant in the case, and the Namibia Agricultural Union, the eighth defendant, which could further compromise his impartiality.
