The Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture is working tirelessly to ensure all learners are placed in schools.

The ministry is also addressing challenges such as water and sanitation in the Kavango East Region.

Speaking to nbc News, Deputy Executive Director Edda Bohn clarified these and more issues and the steps being taken to resolve them.

Bohn acknowledged the challenges associated with school placements, water and sanitation at schools, as well as the issue of schools withholding reports from learners and parents. She assured parents and guardians that the ministry is doing everything possible to find solutions to these challenges in the education sector.

"The learners that are not yet placed are in the hundreds, some areas in the thousands. We are attending to them where we have allocated additional teachers and additional classes with temporary structures that will also have double shifts in these platoon classes."

Bohn also addressed concerns about the state of education infrastructure, particularly in the Kavango East Region, where issues of water and sanitation remain a major challenge at schools.

"Water and sanitation is a priority for the ministry; there is a director in the region, especially in the Kavango East. In case of emergencies in the Kavango East, they are hard at work together with the regional council to solve the problem in terms of water pressure and pipe blockages."

During the interview, Bohn also clarified an important issue regarding voluntary school fees. She reaffirmed that no school is allowed to withhold learners' exam reports due to unpaid voluntary school fees, as it goes against the Education Act.

"The practice of withholding certificates or results due to unpaid school fees or alike is against the law; as soon as such cases are reported to the Ministry, the Ministry will take action to facilitate the release of these reports or certificates, and we trust that we will get the necessary cooperation; the case of withholding results is against the law."

As the school year progresses, the Ministry remains committed to addressing challenges in the education sector and ensuring that every Namibian child has access to quality education.
