The Nazareth Greenwood College in the Otjozondjupa Region has joined in remembering and honouring the legacy of the late Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma, particularly his call for all children to have access to education.
College Director Leonard Simushi stated that achieving political freedom in the country was challenging, and many relied on Nujoma for guidance. The college held a candlelight vigil at the school premises in Otjiwarongo.
Simushi called on the nation to strive and build on the legacy Nujoma left behind.
"It's because of his legacy that we gave birth to this school. That Namibia today is striving for education; they are striving for economic independence because that is what he was crying for, and a nation without education cannot prosper. I would like us to remember—a united people can strive to achieve a common goal, which is good for all members and the whole society, and when we are united, we will always emerge victoriously."
Nazareth Greenwood College Principal, Sophia Simushi, said, "We join the nation in sorrow and great pain as Dr. Nujoma meant to all of us. A great statesman he was indeed. As we host this vigil in his honour, as we celebrate his life at Nazareth Greenwood College, we are all in tune with what Dr. Nujoma served and liberated this nation to be educated."
Senior learners at the school read poems in Nujoma's honour.
Candles were lit and a moment of silence was observed.
