Hundreds of mourners assembled at Oshikunda, Onavivi Village, in Ombalantu, to pay their final respects to the late Lamech Mwanyangapo, a veteran former employee of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC).

Speaker after speaker who spoke earlier at the memorial and burial services described Mwanyangapo as a man full of humility, a peacemaker, a caretaker, a helper, a unifier, and a joyful person who made everyone smile.

The wife, children, family and friends pledged to continue his legacy of selfless service. 

Mwanyangapo joined the NBC in 1995 and continued working there until his retirement. Even after retiring, he maintained his professional relationships with the national broadcaster.

NBC Board Chairperson Lazarus Jacobs challenged those in attendance to ask themselves what contributions they made for their country in memory of Mwanyangapo.

His advocacy work was evident through the Lamech Mwanyangapo Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organisation to fight cancer through community outreach. 

A foundation he started after he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer, which he survived.

Messages of condolence were also delivered on behalf of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the Sam Nujoma Foundation and the Swapo Party.

Mwanyangapo died on the 29th of August at the age of 61. 

As they bid farewell, all were in agreement that Mwanyangapo was a man who was rich in purpose, service and humanity and a go-to person for advice and information, whether at home or abroad.

He also left an indelible mark not only in his village, but also among those who knew him well said his good deeds were felt by many, including in the church.
