The Founding President, throughout his lifetime, was showered with gifts and, as per the English term, given his flowers whilst he was alive.

In 2012, northern-based businessman Fabianus Paulus, well known as Mavinga, heeded the call of then-Omusati regional governor Sophia Shaningwa to construct a road from the Oshakati-Okahao main road to the Founding President's late parent's homestead.

The 700-meter gravel road was constructed for free at Etunda Village as a token of appreciation for the Founding President's contributions to Namibia both during the liberation struggle and after independence.

Paulus, 64 years old now, says Nujoma played an integral role in leading Namibia towards the attainment of independence and mobilised thousands to support his agenda to free Namibia, noting that such bravery should be celebrated.

The businessman says the goal was to thank the late Nujoma for his deeds, adding that any appreciation towards the Founding President should not be quantified.

He says Nujoma encouraged businesspeople to empower themselves and create job opportunities for the youth instead of relying on the government for everything.

Paulus added that Namibian heroes must be saluted whilst alive so that they can know before their demise how valuable they are.

He recollects the day he had the opportunity to have lunch with the late Founding President, a moment he says he will cherish forever, as he was in the presence of a great man, one who inspired him to do better.
