During the gathering in Groot |Aub, the |Khomanin raised concerns over their lack of access to farming land and concerns with two farms recently purchased for their beneficiation by the government.

Some were offended at not having been consulted. Others raised concern over the farms' distance from their ancestral lands.

Portions of the farm Groot Korasieplaats, with a combined size of more than 8,000 hectares, were acquired at a cost of more than N$33 million.

After the acquisition, the government converted the farmland into communal land for the |Khomanin Traditional Authority.

Despite taking hours, most members were allowed to ask questions to their satisfaction without any disruptions.

Chief of the |Khomanin Traditional Authority, Gaos Julianne Gawa!nas, echoed similar sentiments.

Gawa!nas said her people had written enough letters and sought an audience for the longest time to have land and a place they can call home.

Now, she said, they demand action.

The Deputy Executive Director in the Department of Land Management in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Alfred Sikopo, assured the |Khomanin People that the ministry will acquire more land for them as soon as funds are available.

Other issues raised include overgrazing at some farms, water provision and agricultural projects.
