President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has announced the composition of government, aimed at maximising the outcome and effectiveness of government.

The move saw the establishment and abolition of some and the making of several alignments in various government offices, ministries and agencies.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said she made the changes in accordance with Article 32 sub-article 3 (g) of the Namibian Constitution, guided by the Swapo election manifesto implementation plan.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah says the decision was informed by the need to eradicate duplications, cut on expenditures and ensure smooth and effective implementation of development programmes.

She announced that the trade mandate has been transferred to the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation to ensure coordinated synergies in the implementation of economic diplomacy.

The industrialisation function moves to the Ministry of Mines and Energy to drive national industrialisation and economic diversification through value addition initiatives.

The Marginalised and Disability functions will now fall under the Office of the Vice-President, while Labour Relations will be transferred to the Ministry of Justice.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah said this is to ensure effective coordination of labour relations as well as the implementation of the labour legislation.

The management of emerging oil and gas industries has been transferred to the Office of the President, which Dr. Nandi-Ndaitwah said will be done to maximise benefits for all Namibians.

A new entity to manage the government's valuable immovable properties and assets across the country and internationally has also been created.

The changes bring down the number of ministries to 14 from 24 to be served by seven deputy ministers.
