Residents of Walvis Bay are increasingly becoming frustrated by the poor delivery of service from the local municipal council.

Locals describe the town's services as "third-class" and have raised concerns about the growing number of issues affecting daily life.

One of the main concerns raised by residents at a town hall meeting in Walvis Bay this week was the unsightly accumulation of rubbish throughout the town.

The town is virtually littered with uncollected waste piling up at various locations, particularly in Kuisebmund. Additionally, sanitation services have become a significant problem in the harbour town.

Overflowing bins and a lack of proper waste disposal mechanisms have become commonplace.

Furthermore, the deteriorating state of local infrastructure is another major grievance, with many roads in the town riddled with potholes, making travel hazardous and unsafe for residents.

Many residents, especially those in informal settlements, have voiced concerns about the lack of attention to their safety and security.

In response to the issues raised by the community, the Chief Executive Officer of Walvis Bay, Victoria Kapenda, stated that they are working around the clock to address these challenges.

"There are a lot of problems. These problems did not start yesterday. It's problems that came over the years, and unfortunately, we found ourselves in this situation now. Now, when you look at the funding that has been released or required for us to attend to these problems, it's money that we don't have. And that's why I am pleading with the community due to the situation that we found ourselves in, and we need to be a little bit patient. I know that the community is frustrated. It has been many years that you have been complaining, and little has been done, but unfortunately, this is where we are."

Frustrated by these persistent issues, residents are calling on the municipal council to take immediate action as they demand improved infrastructure, better waste management, and more sustainable urban planning to enhance the quality of life in the town and provide better living conditions for all.
