The Office of the Prime Minister has issued a National Flood Advisory following reports from Namibia Meteorological Services warning of above-normal rainfall across the country. Rising surface water levels and localized flooding have already been observed, with further flooding expected, according to the Hydrological Services of Namibia.

Flood-prone areas include the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin, Okavango River and its banks, Zambezi River banks, the eastern Zambezi floodplains, the lower Kuiseb catchment, as well as Mariental and the Hardap Dam area. The lower Orange River and Kunene River are also at risk.

Authorities have identified several high-risk regions, including Ohangwena, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Kunene, Kavango East, Kavango West, and Zambezi.

Residents are urged to avoid crossing flooded roads or walking through fast-moving water. People living near riverbanks and low-lying areas should remain vigilant and secure their properties against possible water damage. The public is advised to follow official updates and comply with safety instructions.

Regional and local authorities have been placed on high alert, with instructions to prepare for potential evacuations, secure emergency supplies, monitor flood-prone areas, and keep drainage systems clear. They are also maintaining close coordination with the Office of the Prime Minister’s Directorate of Disaster Risk Management.
