A young man, believed to be in his early 20s, has been taken in for questioning in connection with a deadly house fire that claimed the lives of several family members in Usakos early this morning.
The fire allegedly started in the bedroom of the house, where the victims were believed to have been sleeping.
According to onlookers who spoke to nbc News, the rest of the house shows little to no fire damage.
Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed that members of the Namibian Police are still at the scene to determine the cause of the blaze and verify the number of casualties.
“It’s a tragic incident — a fatal fire. It is suspected that a number of occupants died when the house was engulfed in flames,” Shampumba said.
Sources indicate that the man currently being questioned was involved in a physical altercation with a group of young men the night before. It is alleged that the group followed him to his residence following the confrontation.
