Massive floodwaters from southern Angola hit northern Namibia on April 1, following heavy rainfall in the neighbouring country.

Senior Hydrologist in the Cuvelai-Etosha Basin, Leonard Hango, said that floodwaters are currently concentrated mainly on the western side of the Ohangwena Region, mainly in the Oshikango, Engela and Ongenga constituencies .

"Those are the constituencies that are heavily affected by this flood wave and are moving gradually southward to areas of Ohaingu and Endola constituencies up to Oshakati and Ongwediva, so they will expect this flood wave in the coming five days."

Meanwhile, all constituencies in the Omusati Region bordering Angola are experiencing high active water flows in their streams, and the water level is increasing rapidly.

The residents are cautioned not to attempt to cross active streams to prevent drowning.

The hydrologist further advised people whose homes may be trapped by water to move to high ground for their safety.
