The Roads Authority (RA) has confirmed that the permanent two-lane bypass between Rehoboth and Windhoek is expected to be completed by the end of this month.

The construction of the two-lane bypass will cost approximately N$13 million.

This announcement follows the construction of a one-way bypass last month, after the bridge near the weighbridge on the B1 road collapsed following heavy rains.

The area is bustling with construction activities, including the placement of culvert structures to channel water.

However, the construction is delayed because culverts are not available in Namibia and have to be procured in South Africa, taking about a week.

nbc News visited the construction site during peak traffic and observed long queues on the temporary one-way road.

On both ends, you can find young men controlling the traffic flow with a stop-and-go sign. They carry out this task around the clock.

However, during the morning and knockoff times, long queues are observed.

Contractor China Railway Seventh Group Namibia is working on the road.
