The National Assembly observed a moment of silence on Wednesday in honor of the victims of two recent national tragedies – the gruesome murder of six family members in Usakos and the loss of three children who died in a lightning strike in the Kavango East Region.

Presiding over the solemn moment, Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr. Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, called on lawmakers and the nation at large to show unity and compassion in the wake of the heartbreaking events.

"We are reminded of the tragedy that we suffered as a country in Usakos..."

The Usakos tragedy claimed the lives of four minors, a 17-year-old youth, and an elderly woman. The victims were reportedly murdered and their bodies set alight in the early hours of Saturday morning.

In a separate incident in the Kavango East Region, three children died after being struck by lightning while seeking shelter from the rain in a room at Katenture Village in the Mukwe Constituency.

Lawmakers described the two tragedies as deeply painful and urged the nation to rally behind the grieving families.
