Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts, and Culture, where he met with the ministry’s directors to familiarise himself with its operations.
"Our visit here is part of an internal conversation—a chance for us to engage openly and support one another, as you are key stakeholders for both the government and President Netumbo," he said. "I will hold similar meetings with the other 14 ministries, but I chose to begin with this private discussion to ensure frank and productive dialogue from the outset."
George Simataa, Secretary to Cabinet, added:
"We are who we are today because of education. Without schooling, we would not be here—that is why we prioritise it. Over the years, we have seen progress—some satisfactory, some not. That is why, upon taking office, the president made education one of her top seven priorities. This is also why the Prime Minister felt it essential to meet with you first—not to address issues like salaries (that falls under my purview; see me separately later), but to engage directly."
Sanet Steenkamp, Minister of Education, emphasised:
"If we, as directors and deputy directors, fail to act with due diligence, professionalism, and responsiveness at the required level, we fail the people and the public service."
