President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has emphasised the importance of collective effort in driving Namibia's development, stating that there is no dream too big to be achieved.

Speaking during her first official visit to the Rössing Uranium Mine, President Nandi-Ndaitwah outlined a bold vision for Namibia's energy future, calling on the nation to begin laying the groundwork for the establishment of a Nuclear Power Plant.

She highlighted the need for a strategic mix of reliable and clean energy sources to boost economic growth and uplift communities out of poverty.

"Nuclear energy is essential," she said, noting that the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the mining sector to thrive.

"I was happy to hear the explanation on how the uranium is produced, and I am also happy that, as a collective, we all agree on the policy of our government that has identified mixed energy in our developmental agenda. We do not rule out nuclear energy as we prescribe to the peaceful use of nuclear; therefore, let us work together and see how best we can take care of our people."

The President also delivered a strong message on labor rights and corporate responsibility.

She urged the mining industry to take full responsibility for workers affected by occupational accidents or radiation exposure.

"In the individual case, let that person not be left without support from the mining sector. A person who suffered while on duty should not be left to face poverty in their village. We need to discuss this with the industry. I do not want to see a person affected at work and then just given whatever and sent home to live in poverty. They should be permanently taken care of by the mine or the industry. We really have to take care of ourselves; we are too few to be poor, whether we are working or not."

She reiterated that human welfare must remain a priority as Namibia expands its mining and energy sectors.
