The Electricity Control Board has announced that it will ensure that NORED fully implements the National Electricity Code.
This follows a number of fatalities that took place in the northern parts of the country, prompting the Electricity Control Board to lay down guidelines for regional electricity distributors.
The safety code governs minimum safety standards for the operation, maintenance, construction and installation of power systems with the purpose of ensuring safety for consumers as well as providing continuity of supply.
As of 2022, five fatal electrocution incidents were reported within NORED's jurisdiction.
A few weeks ago, ECB CEO cautioned NORED to be vigilant and inspect possible illegal connections in a timely manner for the safety of customers and employees.
Interventions have been formally communicated to NORED for implementation and continuous reporting.
