NamPower seeks to increase electricity tariffs

The increase in the cost of electricity has become a growing concern for the average consumer and small businesses in Namibia.

To add salt to the injury, NamPower is seeking a 14,59% increase in electricity tariffs for the 2024–25 financial year. 

The proposal, submitted to the Electricity Control Board (ECB), would raise the average transmission customer tariff from 198.56 cents per kilowatt hour to 227.53.

The Electricity Control Board is yet to announce its decision on the proposed tariff increase tomorrow.

ECB grants 10 electricity licence holders amnesty

Ten of the electricity licence holders who have not applied for their annual review with the Electricity Control Board (ECB) were accorded amnesty.

ECB initiated to adjust their annual tariff from October 1st, 2023, for post-paid and prepaid; the effective date is October 24th, 2023.

 ||Kharas Regional Council, Berseba Village Council, and Gibeon Village Council were accorded a 10% tariff adjustment, although they didn't apply for their annual tariff hike.

Fessor Mbango new CENORED CEO

Former Chief Executive Officer of Erongo Red, Fessor Mbango is the new head of CENORED in the Otjozondjupa Region.

Mbango replaces Robert Kahimise, who was appointed CEO of the Electricity Control Board.

Mbango was introduced as the new CEO for a five-year tenure by the company's Chairperson, Moses Matjayi.

"We definitely have confidence that we have made the right appointment, and we are happy to present to you Mr. Fessor Mbango as the Chief Executive Officer of CENORED, effective today, for the next five years".
