The Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) will start with the Namibia Household Income and Expenditure Survey (NHIES) 2025/2026 next Monday.

The year-long survey will run until April next year, covering all the country's 14 regions.

At the announcement, the NSA swore in field workers who will be conducting the survey.

The NHIES aims to collect crucial data on household income, spending patterns, poverty levels, and inequality.

These indicators are vital for national planning, policy formulation, and monitoring of development initiatives and regional projects.

11,016 private households have been randomly selected to participate in the survey.

The field staff, who took an oath to ensure confidentiality and professionalism, will be responsible for gathering this data through direct engagement with selected homes.

"The daily record book is a book that will be left at the household who will do self-administration, but where they need assistance, our field staff and particularly the supervisors will be returning to the households on a daily basis to assist the households in how to read or write the daily record book," explained survey manager Dr. Pailina Ingo.

The locations to be visited in the Khomas Region as of Monday, 28th April include Shandumbala, Ombili, Goreangab, Okuryangava, Lyeeta, Dr. António Agostinho Neto Square, Merensky Tower, and Dorado Park.

The NSA reassures the public that all information collected will be confidential and used solely for statistical purposes.

"First of all, you are entering someone's house; you are entering their privacy; you are collecting this information, so we have a zero tolerance for divulging information," said NSA Statistician-General Alex Shimuafeni, emphasising the importance of the survey and appealing to the public for full cooperation.
