The Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, has confirmed the arrest of Agriculture Minister Mac Hengari and another individual.

Shikongo told NBC News that they apprehended Hengari on Saturday afternoon.

He added that the police will release further details regarding the arrest in due course. 

Hengari is currently being held at the Windhoek Correctional Facility.

The minister is being investigated for several alleged crimes, including rape, gender-based violence, and illegal abortion.
