As part of the celebration of the International Day of the Portuguese Language, the embassies of Angola, Brazil, and Portugal have donated books to the Windhoek Public Library.
The world Portuguese Language Day has been celebrated every year on the 5th of May since 2019.
Books donated comprised children's literature, geography, history, culture, literary genres and language studies.
The books provide a sample of the cultural richness of the community of Portuguese-speaking countries.
The Executive Director in the Ministry of Education, Gerard Vries, who received the books, indicated that the books will inspire cultural exchange and boost empowerment of language and culture.
"This celebration, therefore, reminds us of the power of languages which unifies us through our histories and cultural identity. As a ministry of education, we are committed to expanding knowledge and exposing our learners and the general public to various languages, as languages have the potential to unlock doors and offer access to various opportunities, whether academic, professional or international collaborations."
